Cougar Blue, Through and Through

The whole family at the BYU Blue & White game
(spring training scrimmage)

A quotable moment from Amy: "Mom's always right...sometimes."

Kara had a ball at the Blue & White game. She was singing and dancing and cheering: "Go Cougars!"

Joy and Brenda have nothing interesting to report.

We All Scream...Occasionally

An Easter egg for Kara

The girls in their lovely new dresses

Joy
took Amy out with him Saturday (while the Easter Bunny finished up come last minute stuff). They put some air in his car tires and had ice cream. They both enjoyed it, so we might have to start a regular Daddy-daughter date tradition.

Brenda
did a lot of singing for Easter. Friday was the third annual combined community Easter concert. On Sunday, she sang in the choir at church and, of course, led the music time in nursery.

Kara
has added a few more letters to her alphabet repertoire. She now says all but H, I, J and K.

The following story is true. The names have not been changed to protect anyone.
The scene: Amy is in trouble. She is crying.
Mom (exasperated): When are you going to learn to do what I say?
Amy (between wails and without hesitation): When I'm six!

Interesting stuff:

-Origami Yoda

Adventures in Home Ownership and Child-Rearing: A Novella

The girls watching general conference

It seems that Kara prefers a well-ordered lunch

Brenda found 5' x 20' puddle in the basement last Thursday. It turned out that we had a leak in the main water line where it enters the house, which just happened to be under the front porch. We had a plumber come out, and he said that they would have to tunnel in through the yard to replace the fixture. He gave us an estimate of $2400-2800, depending on whether they hit any of our sprinkler lines in the process and had to charge us to repair them.

Joy
spent a good deal of Friday morning digging a 4-foot deep hole in our front yard. He had called a friend in the neighborhood (who used to be our home teacher) for a second opinion. Travis came up with an idea that ended up saving us a couple thousand dollars as well as the possibility or our front porch collapsing in the future. Our line was actually bigger than necessary for the size of our house, so he brought a smaller pipe, and he and Joy plus a couple of other guys, spent Friday evening pushing it into the original one, from the basement to the meter box in the front yard, hence the hole. Travis replaced the fittings on both ends, and voila! It was all quite an adventure. We feel very blessed. It was a miracle that 1) we found the problem before we put up drywall or installed carpet in the basement, 2) Travis had an idea that he had never tried before, 3) the builder put the wrong size pipe in, and 4) we have awesome neighbors who were ready and willing to sacrifice several hours to help us.

Kara was quite enthusiastic while the guys were working. Whenever someone entered or left the room she was in, regardless of who it was, she had to say "hi."

We were quite surprised the other night when Amy climbed up on a chair next to the stove, looked at what Mom was making for dinner and said, "What the h***?" When we asked her what she had said, she very clearly and innocently repeated herself. Sure enough. It wasn't earwax build-up. We have no idea where she got it (unless Uncle Jens has been secretly teaching her some of his Navy skills). We calmly explained to her that it's not a nice word to say (especially about Mom's cooking) while trying not to laugh hysterically.
